A cameo carved in Brazilian banded agate, white on black: the profile of an African woman whose head carries the map of the continent. The head is polished so that the countries read clearly, their borders cut into the agate with a rough diamond wheel, among them Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia; the face is left matte, so that the two surfaces stand in contrast. The earrings and the stand are blackened bronze.
