JP GEMS & CARVINGS is a private international collection of unique gemstone sculptures, bringing together exceptional natural specimens and the work of distinguished artists and master lapidaries worldwide.
The collection is defined by rarity, provenance and exceptional craftsmanship. Natural ruby, Colombian emerald, topaz, aquamarine, tourmaline, ametrine, amethyst, rock crystal, smoky quartz, nephrite jade, jadeite, lapis lazuli, agate, chalcedony, opal, jasper, obsidian, ancient flint and amber are among the treasures represented. Diamonds, precious metals, fossils and contrasting gemstones may also become part of more complex compositions.
Formed through extraordinary geological processes over millions and sometimes billions of years, each carries a unique record of its origin. Some crystallised deep within the Earth; others formed under immense heat and pressure or from mineral-rich fluids moving through ancient rock. Amber followed an entirely different path, preserving traces of ancient life across geological time.
The finest artists and master lapidaries work in dialogue with nature. Colour, transparency, crystal structure and natural inclusions guide the composition, revealing qualities unique to each gemstone. A single sculpture may require months or even years of precision, patience and artistic judgement.
Collecting exceptional gemstone and hardstone sculpture has a distinguished history. The British Royal Collection holds an extraordinary group of Fabergé hardstone works, including the celebrated Sandringham animal sculptures commissioned by King Edward VII.
Works by artists represented in the JP GEMS & CARVINGS Collection have been exhibited in and associated with internationally respected institutions, including the State Hermitage Museum, the GIA Museum and the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, a Smithsonian Affiliate.
