THE ART OF GEMSTONE CARVING

At the meeting point of nature, rarity and human mastery, gemstone carving becomes something far greater than ornament.

Gems & Carvings presents exceptional works by some of the world’s most accomplished gem and mineral carvers. Works by our artists are represented in leading museums, including the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, and in important private collections worldwide.

Every sculpture begins with an irreplaceable natural material — a rare gem or mineral formed within the Earth over millions of years. Its colour, structure and inclusions can never be precisely recreated. The artist does not simply impose a form upon it, but responds to what nature has already written within the stone.

Only a small number of masters possess the technical skill and artistic vision required to work at this level. Months, and sometimes years, may be devoted to a single piece. Precious metals, contrasting minerals and exceptional gemstones may be incorporated to complete the composition.

The material is rare. The mastery is rarer. The work exists only once.

These are not objects made in editions. Nature cannot reproduce the same stone, and the artist cannot repeat the same encounter.

Some works are created as private commissions, bringing together the collector’s vision, the artist’s imagination and a material that may have waited millions of years to take its final form.

Millions of years in the making. One moment of creation. One work for generations.

Bespoke gemstone sculptures are available by commission. Please contact the gallery for availability, commissions and pricing.
