Two finches are carved from a single block of moss agate, with eyes of garnet. The birds are life-size. The rough block weighed 12 kg; carving brought the finished sculpture down to 6 kg.
Agate is a microcrystalline quartz that forms slowly in cavities in igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock, where silica-rich groundwater is deposited over long periods; the pattern and the colours of each stone follow the shape of the cavity and the conditions at the time of crystallisation.
Materials: moss agate, garnet
Dimensions: height 235 mm
Weight: 6 kg
