Bi-Colour Amethyst Sculpture – Python
A python carved from a single crystal of bi-colour amethyst, with details in 18K gold. The snake is cut from the strong purple at the top of the crystal, while the white part is left exactly as it came out of the mine, its external crystallisation forming the small rock formation on which the python rests.
The crystal is one of a group of amethysts and ametrines from Bolivia, bought from photographs rather than chosen in person, as travel was not possible at the time; its colours and surface texture allowed the areas of the carving to be defined clearly.
Materials: bi-colour amethyst, 18K gold
Dimensions: 12 × 9 × 14 cm
