Nephrite Jade Necklace – Snake
Snake
By Alexey Zefirov · Natural Siberian Nephrite Jade and Gold
A serpent curves around the neck, following the intimate line where breath becomes a pulse. Its engraved skin catches the light like liquid silk; deep green nephrite meets the warmth of gold. There is a quiet tension in its stillness, the suggestion that it might move closer.
Carved by Alexey Zefirov from a 20-kilogram piece of rough Siberian nephrite, the necklace transforms substantial stone into a sinuous form. Fine ornamental engraving draws light across its scales, revealing the patient work of the artist’s hand.
In ancient Greek tradition, the serpent belonged to the world of healing and renewal. In ancient Egypt, the rearing cobra—the uraeus—embodied royal authority and protection. Across these traditions, the snake holds a fascination that is both sacred and physical: a creature close to the earth, capable of shedding its skin and emerging renewed.
Here, that symbolism becomes intimate. The serpent rests against the wearer’s skin, its curves answering those of the body. Cool jade meets human warmth. With every breath and movement, the sculpture becomes part of a living presence.
Its sensuality lies in this closeness: the weight of stone, the gleam of gold, the awareness of something resting at the throat. It evokes desire held in a glance, strength felt before it is spoken, and the freedom to inhabit one’s body without apology.
To shed an old skin is to make room for what comes next. Snake carries that possibility as a personal emblem of transformation—and of feeling entirely at home in one’s own skin.
Materials: natural Siberian nephrite jade and gold.
Created by Alexey Zefirov especially for the JP GEMS & CARVINGS collection. His work has been exhibited at the Fabergé Museum.
