Infant is a sleeping child carved in Siberian nephrite, with a swaddle of patinated bronze, on a base of Belgian black marble. It won a Gold Award at the 2014 Zi Gang Bei International Jade Competition in Suzhou, China, and was made specifically as the artist's first submission to the Zi Gang Bei Cup.
The artist writes that, before the cognitive, conditioned mind develops, all newborn children are connected to and draw sustenance from Source, expressing purity and innocence. Infant is the third in a series on the eternal child babe, in which a bronze casting from the same pattern, finished in varying patinas, is combined with jades from different regions, each representing a matching ethnicity.
