Ruby Sculpture – Buddha in Lotus Flower
A seated Buddha carved from Indian ruby, set in a carved rock crystal lotus flower on a base of white dolomite, with elephants of lapis lazuli, 948 diamonds and 18K gold throughout.
The lotus flower egg is built from 4 parts of rock crystal, frosted and polished, with 8 parts in 18K gold and 557 diamonds of 10.34 ct. The Buddha itself is Indian ruby of 7,560 ct with 681 g of 18K gold and weighs 2,931 g in all.
A revolving mechanism carries 4 elephants in solid 18K white gold with 160 diamonds of 3.05 ct, and the middle part is 635 g of solid 18K gold. On the base stand 4 elephants of lapis lazuli with 223 diamonds of 7.65 ct, 200 ruby beads of 17 ct and 4 hammers in 18K gold. The base is white dolomite, 230 × 230 mm, with 4 grooved squares of rock crystal, 4 ruby leaves, 24 parts of mother-of-pearl and 28 ruby cabochons; the white dolomite base plate carries 28 ruby plates and 4 grooved rock crystal plates in 18K gold.
