The sculpture is carved in obsidian, jade and tiger's eye, with silver: an owl standing upright, its wings held a little away from the body, its small ear tufts raised and its large eyes golden brown. The black plumage, flecked with red-brown, is worked feather by feather, and metal claws grip the dark green top of a round base set in a patterned metal rim.
