The piece is assembled from jasper, moss agate, jade and quartz, with ruby, silver and gold: a single poppy in flower, its ruffled dark red petals open around a star-rayed centre ringed with pale-tipped stamens. A second stem carries a bristly dark green bud splitting to show a red petal, and deeply cut green leaves spring from the slender dark stems. They stand in a vase with a clear cylindrical neck and a rounded body of polished red stone patterned with cream, set in a metal rim.
