Quartz Sculpture – Solaris
Solaris is a carving in quartz, after the novel by Stanislaw Lem. Quartz has optical properties that neither glass nor plastic has, and here they produce the effect of stars inside the stone. There are no defined images in the work, only unobtrusive hints, and the viewer finds figures of their own in it.
The artist describes the crystal as a living thing with a soul, inorganic and unlike the biological world, and approached without words; the meeting of two souls, the crystal's and the artist's, makes objects that human logic alone cannot account for. In the artist's account, stone and man are guides of the Creator, of the Universe. The composition asks the viewer to go beyond the boundaries of their own perception, and stands as a mirror to the inner story of the soul.
