The sculpture is carved in obsidian and jasper, with silver: a rooster standing upright on a drum-shaped base, its head turned to one side, with a tall red comb and red wattles. The red-brown plumage is worked feather by feather and the wings are held a little away from the body. Metal claws grip the top of the base, which has black sides carved with a wood grain, reddish-brown bands set with rows of metal studs at the top and bottom, and a metal ring handle on one side.
