Snow in Delhi
By Grigory Ponomarev · Natural Flint

A woman dances through the flowing patterns of flint. White and grey sweep across her figure like snow carried on the wind, following the rhythm of her body. The stone’s natural markings become part of the dance, giving movement a visible trace.

The title, Snow in Delhi, holds the wonder of an unexpected encounter: the warmth of a human presence amid the imagined hush of falling snow. Her gesture brings the two together—a fleeting movement preserved in stone.

Grigory Ponomarev’s finely detailed carving allows the figure and the material to speak together. The patterns travel across her form like folds of fabric caught in motion. Nature supplied their rhythm; the artist gave them a body.

Flint once served human hands as a material for tools. Here, it holds something more elusive: the grace of a dancer, the turn of a body, a moment that would otherwise disappear. The dance continues in the eye of the viewer.

Material: natural flint.

Snow in Delhi forms part of the JP GEMS & CARVINGS collection. Grigory Ponomarev’s work has been exhibited at the Fabergé Museum.
