Topaz Medusa

$0.00

2,270-Carat Natural Topaz

Created in 2024, Medusa by Julia Gogol was carved from a single extraordinary piece of natural topaz. The finished sculpture weighs 2,270 carats and glows in golden cognac and warm peach tones.

Medusa is not simply carved upon the gemstone — she appears to live within it. Her face emerges from the heart of the stone beneath an intricate crown of serpents, their bodies twisting through light and shadow with extraordinary delicacy.

Turn the sculpture, and another presence appears: a female profile held within a monumental eye. Topaz is a doubly refractive gemstone, and Gogol plays with its optical character to intensify the sensation of depth, shifting imagery and illusion as the stone is viewed from different angles.

The symbolism is haunting. In mythology, Medusa's gaze turned those who looked at her to stone. Here, Gogol reverses the legend: Medusa has become the stone — and the stone looks back.

With every movement, light transforms the carving—revealing, concealing, seducing. Beauty and danger, femininity and power, mythology and geology collide within a gemstone formed millions of years before human hands touched it.

Medusa is now part of the Gems & Carvings Collection.
